Glossary: Bulk Density
**Bulk Density** is the mass of granular materials (like gravel, sand, or crushed stone) divided by the total volume they occupy, including the air space between particles.
Weight and Volume Conversions
Common construction aggregates have a standard dry bulk density of approximately 100 to 105 lb/ft³ (1,600 to 1,680 kg/m³). Mulch has a much lower bulk density (~35 lb/ft³), whereas asphalt is denser (~145 lb/ft³).
