Glossary: Gear Ratio
**Gear Ratio** is the mechanical ratio of the driven gear's rotational velocity relative to the drive gear, calculated as the driven gear's tooth count divided by the drive gear's tooth count.
Drivetrain Velocity Math
Gear ratios dictate rotational torque and speed conversions. A ratio larger than 1.0 reduces speed but increases torque (underdrive), whereas a ratio under 1.0 increases speed (overdrive).
